Welcome.
I’m Katrin, the founder of Open Your Eyes.
I was born in Estonia in 1980 to an Estonian mother and a Georgian-Armenian father, and this country has been my home for most of my life.
Today, I am a mother of three, an author, therapist, teacher, and podcast host. But none of those roles define why I do what I do.
For more than twenty years, one question has guided my life:
Why do so many people struggle to find lasting happiness, health, and fulfilling relationships?
That question didn’t begin as an intellectual curiosity. It grew out of my own life.
I experienced different forms of violence, found myself repeating unhealthy relationship patterns, struggled with addiction, and lived in a constant state of emotional and physical exhaustion. No matter how much I achieved on the outside, my inner world remained chaotic. I couldn’t understand why peace always seemed just out of reach.
Professionally, I chose a very different path.
I earned a Master’s degree in Law and spent ten years working in business law. Yet despite building a successful career, I felt that something essential was missing.
Around the age of thirty, after becoming a mother and separating from the father of my children, my life took an unexpected turn. I began exploring yoga, Tantra, meditation, and different approaches to personal and spiritual development. Those experiences transformed my understanding of myself and awakened a desire to dedicate my life to helping others heal and grow.
As the years passed, I also learned that every path deserves to be questioned. I encountered teachings that no longer aligned with my values, and I gradually stepped away from following doctrines in favor of listening more deeply to my own conscience and lived experience.
My greatest transformation came through suffering.
During my first marriage, I reached a point where I realized that something had to change. I could either continue repeating the same patterns or begin understanding where they came from.
That decision led me into a profound healing journey that lasted nearly a decade.
Along the way, I uncovered one of the deepest wounds of my life: memories of childhood sexual abuse at the age of three. Understanding that experience changed everything. It helped me see how early trauma shapes our relationships, our beliefs, our nervous system, and the way we experience ourselves and the world.
Everything I create today is part of the same journey.
The more deeply we know ourselves, the more honestly we can connect with others. Healing creates balance. Balance creates freedom. And true freedom allows us to experience peace and happiness and that leads us to love.
To me, love is not simply an emotion. It is the deepest form of connection—with ourselves, with one another, with life, and with The Source. Love is the meaning of life. Without love nothing has meaning and with love, everything has meaning.
I hope that somewhere within my books, conversations, courses, or therapeutic work, you will find something that resonates with your own journey.
Thank you for being here.
With love,
Katrin
